How do you how you see you self?
I’ve no idea. I’m not one to quite put a label on myself. It’s just something that comes to me when I feel like it. I tend to either wear something a bit simple, some long sleeved shirt and jeans, and that’d be it. I’m not one to really look at the fashion magazines and say “I want to be that” I, I just don’t really take that into account. I won’t be really in sync with current times, and basically, I’ll just fade into the background if I did it right. Going ‘round the bars and festivals, it got a bit hot there, so it’s sort of the genesis for that. So coming here to Los Angeles, I sort of kept to that particular style of dressing. I’ve been around some festivals and I’ve seen people half naked, and I’d just be there going “what’s with him?” I mean, the people here just rubbed off their nonchalant approach to clothes on me. I love my shoes, though. I’m very picky about my shoes, and I’ll often be in the dressing room just cleaning them before a show, which makes me band mate mad. Have to wear something nice, yeah?
I tend to be in shape, yeah. I like to keep fit, since it helps the singing, and the whole breathing if one keeps in shape. Ironically, I like to smoke, so it’s just something that I’m trying to cut back, and just have a smoke here or there. But aside that, I’m not one to really head to a fast food, and just eat from whatever’s there, so that’s helped. All in all, I’ve always tried to keep in shape. Not out of this sense of the Olympian figure that musicians would be having, but It would be out of habit, mostly. It’s a good habit, yeah, but it’s just a habit. I just get up, go run, do some pushups or something *laughs*. But I tend to be rather bad at going to a gym, and picking up weights and going at it. I don’t know why, so it’s why I’m lanky. I’m not looking fat, am I? *laughs*
Attitudes can kill too, what is your personality?
I’m shy, as you can see. Usually, I just channel all I can into the stage, and just try to give a good energy into the fans, and hopefully, they’ll do the same. Aside that, I loathe the spotlight. I’ve come from bars, and small venues throughout my career, and I’ve seen my share of strange stuff, and people up to summat, so nothing would surprise me now. But overall, I’ve been patient, and just took a chance with my band mate and came here to work this out.
I’m not going to give up the dream. I’m very pleased with coming here, and I’ve been slowly getting used to the movement, and it’s made me just realize a bit of what I would do. I’m very glad my friend came along, who happens to be my band mate, and…uh, I’m basically been toughing it out, trying to develop my songwriting and my music, so it’s been very difficult, the change. The scenery is completely different in how the bands work, how the venues are treated. Which sort of made me a bit jaded about it *laughs* It’s strange, but I’ve grown accustomed to Los Angeles. Turnin’ into a yank, and everything!
Musical-wise, I’m very straight-forward. I’ve told people this a lot of times, but coming from a solo act, it’s been hard to come up with stuff with other people. It’s very different, since you have to take into account the input of other people, and overall opinion on what you came up with. I’ve tried to not be as biting as I used to be when I was on my own, but it gets difficult. And my band mate, god bless him, has been very patient and very kind. He gets annoyed form time to time, that much is sure *laughs*
How do you usually dress?
I’m like a mix of strange of both the scene, and the fashion, and just a lazy attempt at dressing up. It’s just something…I’m utterly bad at dressing up. At times, I’ve either overdressed, or underdressed. But as I went on, and played the gigs, I got used to how they dressed in the scene. Usually, I tried to emulate a bit of Beatles, and tried to put a tuxedo on, but then I realized that the bars had very little air conditioning up in the stage. Which made it very uncomfortable for me to play in every time I went on stage. So I just switched into something I felt more comfortable in, and I’ve been wearing that since.
But coming out here, I’ve noticed that first impression are everything. ‘Course, you won’t see me running ‘round dressed up as if I’m heading the NME awards show. But, just, overall, you’ll see me just wearing casuals, and that’d be it. I’m not looking to impress people through overabundance and extravaganza, and have them focus up on my music.

So I wanna know about your past, present, and maybe even future?
I was born in Sheffield. Uh, I’ve been there all my life, and got exposed to music in Hillsborough. I was seventeen. I was working as a busboy back in a bar, and watched this band play, and I had the bug bite me. Before that, I used to write little stories and snippets, and I played piano and organ. Nothing too substantial or anything like that. But as I kept working there, I saw many different bands, and I decided to get a guitar and start playing. On my birthday, I was given a guitar. I still have it, by the way. It cost about seventy pence, and I loved it. I played with it, just teaching myself through covering Queens of The Stone Age records. Once graduation came, I left to Manchester, and studied literature.
While I was there, though, I played ‘round the bars, hoping to get some exposure and I kept studying, and got a bachelor’s. Even after that, I kept ‘round Manchester, and played some sets on my own, and got found by a producer from Leeds. I had saved up some money, and bought some sessions, and came up with a demo. After that, people were starting to get a hold of me, but I wasn’t exactly famous enough. BBC aired off a few of my songs, and even then, I wasn’t being called by the big studios, y’know? And it was strange, because I was opening for a few festivals, and got a following. Tried to open up a MySpace account, but people started to do it for me, so I ignored that route, and went the other way. I tried to get my demo out there, but it was just a lack of other people. Usually, I would beg people to play some sets with me, and I wouldn’t be hired if I didn’t find a bandmate.
Soon enough, I was up in Northern England, in some small festival. It was a two day series, and we were opening for the bigger bands. I kept hearing that the place to be was Los Angeles. Joshua Tree, Columbia, Aurora. All the more important record studios and places were there. But I had no band mate, so I was stuck on my own. So I’m just lying back in a sofa somewhere, which was right behind some tents and I would see the buses coming back and forth, I had finished up the set, and I was listening to The Pits, who went after me, and when they finished, the mates came to the back, and I kept talking with the front man. We kept talking, and we hit it off. We shared musical styles and we got to writing a few songs afterward. We didn’t have a studio ready for us, so we basically just decided to head here and pull off the dream. And so, we’re here trying to get out act out there, for the people.[/size]
